E.SUN 25 Holds E.SUN Awards Ceremony and Nationwide Touring Exhibition
Monday, October 30, 2017

E.SUN 25 held the E.SUN Awards ceremony at the E.Sun headquarter building this afternoon (30th) to announce the first prize, special selection, and outstanding award winners. A total of 1,862 unique works were submitted, including 1,453 works in the General Public Category and 409 works in the Student Category. The scale of the competition is unprecedented in Taiwan’s art world, and has received an enthusiastic response from artists. The artworks fully demonstrate the creativity and vitality of the artists and their love for Taiwan.

After a quarter of a century since its establishment, E.SUN is celebrating its 25th anniversary. With a deep love for our homeland and to show our ongoing care for art and humanities, E.SUN Bank will be holding the “E.SUN Awards” again this year. In his speech, Joseph N.C.Huang, President of E.SUN FHC and E.SUN Bank said that thanks to the enthusiastic response of artists and students from around the world, the participants not only came from Taiwan, but also from China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, the United States, Denmark, and Russia. These artists have presented Yushan in rich and diverse ways. After a careful selection process by the panel of judges, which consisted of nine art experts and academics, one first prize, three special selection, and ten outstanding prizes were selected in the General Public Category and Student Category, respectively. Congratulations to the winning artists who stood out from the fierce competition, and our sincerest thanks to the other participants for their hard work.

In the General Public Category, the first prize went to Chu Huei-Fen for the artwork “Spring in Yushan.” During the cold season of Yushan, the blossoming flowers are particularly beautiful, while the trees at the top of the mountains form a distinctively pleasing silhouette, and the elegant shape of the Main Peak forms the most moving scenery. In the Student Category, the first prize went to Tsai Wei-Chieh for the artwork “To the One Who Dreams”. The careful composition and brushstrokes seem to incorporate the real world into the painting, and pay tribute to director Chi Po-Lin, linking the aesthetics of Yushan and the land of Taiwan with the passion for creation.

The convener of the jury, Professor Liao Jen-I of the Taipei National University of the Arts, emphasized that culture is a symbol of excellence in modern society, and that modern society must have political quality, economic quality, and most importantly, cultural quality. Since its establishment, E.SUN Bank has actively taken on the monumental task of cultural cultivation, and has been a supporter of visual and performing arts. This includes organizing the “E.SUN Awards,” which have elevated Yushan from the glory of nature to the glory of culture.

Today, the E.SUN 25 E.SUN Awards nationwide touring exhibition will also take off. It will launch at the E.Sun headquarter building, and will then be exhibited at E.SUN Bank’s northern, central and southern branches and the Kaohsiung Cultural Center. The award-winning artworks will share the beauty of Yushan and its cultural features with customers and the public. These outstanding artists have interpreted Yushan from a variety of viewpoints, fully demonstrating their passion for creation and detailed and rich connotations.

The “E.SUN Awards” are held to encourage artists to continue fostering their creative energy through competitions, awards, and exhibitions, in the hopes of interpreting truth, goodness, and beauty through oil paintings. In addition, we hope to bring together their artistic energy to transmit the Taiwanese spirit of “Pure as Jade, Sturdy as Mountain,” and make the world a better place.
